It’s been over three years since “Spaceman” was originally announced. And at the time, the film instantly became one of our most anticipated. This is a film from an accomplished filmmaker starring Adam Sandler as an astronaut in a sci-fi drama. Sign us up! Well, over the past three-plus years, we didn’t hear much about the film. But thankfully, it appears Netflix is finally ready to release it.

As seen in the first-look teaser, “Spaceman” stars Adam Sandler as an astronaut dealing with a failing marriage while on a solitary research mission in outer space. As you might expect, there’s not much you can do to fix your relationship when you’re across the solar system from your partner. At least the astronaut has a mysterious creature hiding in his ship that will help him figure stuff out. With that premise, you can see why everyone’s excited about this film.
Joining Sandler in the cast are Carey Mulligan, Kunal Nayyar, Lena Olin, Isabella Rossellini, and Paul Dano. The film is directed by Johan Renck, who is probably best known for his TV work, particularly in the acclaimed limited series, “Chernobyl.” This marks his first feature film since 2008’s “Downloading Nancy.”
“Spaceman” is expected to arrive on Netflix on March 1. You can watch the teaser, as well as see first-look images, below.
Here’s the synopsis:
Six months into a solitary research mission to the edge of the solar system, an astronaut, Jakub (Adam Sandler), realizes that the marriage he left behind might not be waiting for him when he returns to Earth. Desperate to fix things with his wife, Lenka (Carey Mulligan), he is helped by a mysterious creature from the beginning of time he finds hiding in the bowels of his ship. Hanuš (voiced by Paul Dano) works with Jakub to make sense of what went wrong before it is too late.
