‘Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse’: Jason Schwartzman, Shea Whigham & More Join The Cast For Sony’s Upcoming Sequel

If you’re a fan of superhero films or just good films, in general, you have to be excited about “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.” The sequel to ‘Into the Spider-Verse’ (which won the Best Animated Feature Oscar, btw) features animation that looks to push the boundaries of what was even done in the previous film and it actually has an even beefier cast than before. And the cast just keeps growing, as Sony announces even more familiar voices joining the animated sequel.

Sony Pictures Animation had a presence at this year’s Annecy Festival, where the studio not only talked about ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ but also debuted a new image from the film and some new cast members. Apparently, Jason Schwartzman, Shea Whigham, Jorma Taccone, and Rachel Dratch are the latest folks to join the growing cast of the animated superhero film. The only new cast member to get introduced with a picture from the film is Schwartzman, who is playing the villain The Spot. Whigham is set to voice Gwen Stacy’s (Hailee Steinfeld) dad, George Stacy, Taccone is going to provide the voice of The Vulture, and Dratch is set to voice a school counselor.

These folks join a cast that includes the previously announced actors such as Steinfeld, Shameik Moore, Oscar Isaac, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Brian Tyree Henry, and Luna Lauren Vélez. An exact plot has yet to be revealed, but in the teaser that was released a while ago, we can see that producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, alongside co-directors Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, aren’t going to rest on their laurels and turn in a ho-hum sequel.
