Who does Steven Spielberg think he is? Steven Soderbergh? While Spielberg has always worked at a steady pace, it seems he’s recently firing on more cylinders than usual. He’s got "Bridge Of Spies" in the can for release this fall, he’s wrapped on "The BFG" for release next summer, and now he’s gearing up his 2017 project.
Spielberg’s adaptation of Ernest Cline‘s beloved "Ready Player One" has leaped to the top of the pile, with Warner Bros. dating the movie for release on December 15, 2017. Zak Penn ("X-Men: Last Stand," "The Avengers") is writing the futuristic tale that’s heavy on pop culture references. Here’s the book synopsis:
But when Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade’s going to survive, he’ll have to win — and confront the real world he’s always been so desperate to escape.
Sounds trippy. For those of you who have read the book —can Spielberg do it justice? Hit the comments section and let us know. [Deadline]
