Sundance 2022 First Looks: Dakota Johnson In ‘Cha Cha Real Smooth,’ John Boyega In ‘892’ & More

The Sundance Film Festival takes place between January 20-30 and announced its full line-up today. Additionally, dozens of first-look images (see below) were released today alongside synopsizes for the festival slate that includes projects such as “Emily The Criminal,” “Cha Cha Real Smooth,” from young SXSW Winner and filmmaker/actor Cooper Raiff and “892.” The latter features the late Michael Kenneth Williams, the project shot before his untimely death.

Aubrey Plaza stars in “Emily The Criminal,” taking on the role of a debt-riddled woman (Emily) that is pulled into the criminal underworld. The pic is from John Patton Ford, who does double duty as both director and screenwriter. Theo Rossi, Megalyn Echikunwoke, and Gina Gershon also co-star with Plaza in the crime flick.

“Down on her luck and saddled with debt, Emily gets involved in a credit card scam that pulls her into the criminal underworld of Los Angeles, ultimately leading to deadly consequences.”

Writer/director Cooper Raiff is behind and in front of the camera for this new fictional drama “Cha Cha Real Smooth” that features Dakota Johnson, the aforementioned Raiff, Vanessa Burghardt, Evan Assante, Brad Garrett, and Leslie Mann among the cast.

“A directionless college graduate embarks on a relationship with a young mom and her teenage daughter while learning the boundaries of his new bar mitzvah party-starting gig.”

“892” is based on the true story of Brian Brown-Easley that sees the desperate and impoverished Marine vet take hostages when his disability check from Veteran Affairs isn’t received. The intense true-crime drama from director Abi Damaris Corbin stars John Boyega, Michael Kenneth Williams, Nicole Beharie, Connie Britton, Olivia Washington, and Selenis Leyva.

“When Brian Brown-Easley’s disability check fails to materialize from Veterans Affairs, he finds himself on the brink of homelessness and breaking his daughter’s heart. No other options, he walks into a Wells Fargo Bank and says ‘I’ve got a bomb.'”
