At first, you might think that a film about a woman being stalked by a superintelligent AI that presents with the voice of James Corden would be a horror film. I mean, James Corden is a popular guy and seems silly enough, but let’s be real, his voice following you everywhere you go and threatening to blow up the world doesn’t really seem like fodder for a comedy. Alas, that’s exactly what we’re presented with in the new film, “Superintelligence.”
As seen in the trailer for “Superintelligence,” Melissa McCarthy stars as a normal woman, with seemingly nothing that makes her anything other than ordinary. But for some reason, she’s chosen by a supreme superintelligent AI (voiced by Corden) to be the person that holds the fate of the world in her hands. You see, the AI is going to use its time with McCarthy’s character as a way to determine whether or not the Earth is worth keeping around or if maybe everybody should die. No pressure or anything.
“Superintelligence” is the latest collaboration between McCarthy and her husband/filmmaking partner, Ben Falcone. Previously, the duo worked on comedies such as “Life of the Party,” “The Boss,” and “Tammy.” Though McCarthy acts her ass off in those films, none of them have been the box office hits that people expect from the actress. Well, at least this time no one has to worry about box office receipts, as “Superintelligence” is heading straight to HBO Max.
“Superintelligence” is set to premiere on HBO Max on November 26. You can watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
In the film, when an all-powerful Superintelligence (James Corden) chooses to study the most average person on Earth, “Carol Peters” (Melissa McCarthy), the fate of the world hangs in the balance. As the A.I. decides to enslave, save or destroy humanity, it’s up to Carol to prove that people are worth saving.
