In an industry dominated by prequels, sequels, and reboots, especially when it comes to the horror genre, it’s always worth celebrating when an original film does so well that it kickstarts a franchise naturally. Perhaps the biggest example of this, over the past decade, is with “John Wick.” But most recently, in the horror genre, we’ve seen “Talk to Me” become a breakout hit for A24. So, it makes sense the studio would rush to get a sequel going.
According to A24, the studio has already begun development on “Talk 2 Me,” the sequel to the breakout horror hit, “Talk to Me.” The original film follows the story of kids who attempt a seance with the help of a severed hand. Since its debut at this year’s Sundance, the film has gone on to receive rave reviews and become a hit with horror fans. Not much is known about the sequel at this time, other than the fact that it will be written by Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman and directed by Danny and Michael Philippou.
This news comes on the heels of the Philippou Brothers revealing they had already shot a prequel film that has yet to find a release. With the “Talk to Me” franchise just beginning, it’ll be interesting to see where A24 ends up placing the prequel. It would be a shame to just release it as some sort of bonus content when “Talk to Me” hits home release, right?
This isn’t the first time recently that A24 has struck while the horror iron was hot. During the creation of Ti West’s slasher, “X,” the studio quickly filmed the first prequel “Pearl.” Now, a third film in the franchise, “MaXXXine,” is expected to be released soon. So, we have to assume if “Talk 2 Me” does well, we could see even more from the Philippou directing duo in the future.
“Talk 2 Me” doesn’t yet have a release date. In addition to this film, the Philippou twins have also been attached to “Street Fighter,” which is also in development.
