‘The Green Knight’: A24’s New Retro Trailer Reveals ‘D&D’-Style RPG Inspired By The David Lowery Film

One of the more unfortunate delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic involves the highly-anticipated David Lowery film, “The Green Knight.” A24 announced in May that the feature was vacating its May release date for an undetermined release in the future. And since we still don’t know when the fantasy film will be released, the production company has gone ahead and made a Tabletop RPG game, based on “The Green Knight,” to keep you occupied.

As revealed in the new trailer, A24 is now selling “The Green Knight: A Fantasy Role-Playing Game.” The RPG, definitely inspired by “Dungeons & Dragons” (the retro look of the clip says it all), puts you and your friends in the roles of adventurers set to take on the title character.

Here’s the full description:

“From the hallowed halls of Camelot to the mysterious wilds of the fabled Green Chapel, embark on a mythical journey across Arthurian lands in search of the Green Knight. Prepare to face highwaymen, ghostly damsels, mystical creatures and more. Your quest begins with the Game Master’s Guide, Map of the Realm, 5 Character Sheets, and a 20-sided die. With Honor at stake, will you rise to meet the challenge?”

This isn’t the first time that A24 has thought outside of the box to promote its features. Most famously, the company released a short run of toys inspired by the Bear in a Cage seen in Ari Aster’s thriller, “Midsommar.” The studio also released a retro-style trailer to help promote the release of the acclaimed Safdie Brothers film, “Uncut Gems,” last year. The studio also almost got filmmaker Robert Eggers banned from Poland because of a marketing stunt for “The Witchinvolving the Satanic Temple.

Needless to say, A24 is definitely on top of things when it comes to innovative marketing. Honestly, I didn’t realize I needed a ‘Green Knight’ RPG until today. And you better believe I’ll be purchasing one for myself.
