Writer and producer Damon Lindelof sure does enjoy bending the heads of his audience. Long after keeping TV viewers guessing about hippy research initiatives in “Lost,” before getting all existential in “The Leftovers,” Lindelof returns to movies and no doubt about to keep us on our toes once again. So much so that there aren’t even any plot details for us to track down for “The Hunt.” Until now, that is.
Director Craig Zobel takes on his third feature with “The Hunt” having recently added episodes of “Westworld” and “American Gods” under his belt. He’s flanked by the aforementioned Lindelof, who has just finished writing the upcoming HBO ‘Watchmen’ TV series, and Nick Cuse, who penned “The Leftovers.” Lofty expectations indeed.
There’s plenty more that’s got us intrigued in “The Hunt” too. First up, Blumhouse Productions is on board as the production company behind the film, which automatically ups the horror ante for this horror/action/thriller. Then there’s the whole idea of humans hunting humans for sport, which is always a good time, right?
Add to that a cast which is low-key enough to slip under the radar, but also peppered with enough talented people to perk you right up. Included in the line-up is Betty Gilpin, who’s fresh from the ring in “GLOW,” and Amy Madigan (“Uncle Buck,” “Field of Dreams,” “Gone Baby Gone“). These are joined by Emma Roberts and the Golden God himself, Glenn Howerton from “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.”
Also starring Jim Klock, Charli Slaughter, Ike Barinholtz, Justin Hartley and Dean West, “The Hunt” is set for release on October 18. You can watch the trailer below.
