'Mindhunter' Season 2 Trailer: David Fincher's Long Awaited Serial Killers/FBI Series Returns

One of Netflix’s most popular series is set to return when “Mindhunters” comes back for its second season.

The crime thriller had its second season announced back in 2017, and since then had been lying dormant, until executive producer David Fincher, a veteran director of films such as “Zodiac,” “Se7en” and “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,” appeared on KCRW’s The Treatment’ podcast and revealed the release date of the latest season.

Charlize Theron, another executive producer on the show,was the one who gave Fincher the book which the show is based off of by John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker. Theron believed that Fincher would be perfect for the show she pitched for him, speaking to Gulf News, she said, “I just thought he must be somewhat obsessed with serial killers the way that I am, and I was happy to find out that he was.” Considering Fincher’s director credits, it really did was a perfect fit.

Both Theron and Fincher, along with Joe Penhall, who is one of the main writers and producers of the show, set out to make a show that was gripping and enthralling and wanted to get deep into the mind of a serial killer. When the show first released, it took Netflix by storm after its initial release on October 13, 2017, and a month later “Mindhunter’ was renewed for a second season.

Two years later, season two is now set to come out with very little detail that has come out about the new season, it was reported by various sources that Damon Herriman is set to play Charles Manson in this season.

Here is the synopsis for the series:

Based on the 1996 book ‘Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit’, by former special agent John Douglas and Mark Olshaker, “Mindhunter” tells about some of his highest-profile cases, including the man who hunted prostitutes in Alaska, the Atlanta child murderer, and Seattle’s Green River killer.

Set in 1979, the series centers on the inquisitive and skilled FBI Agent Bill Tench (Holt McCallany). Along with fellow serial killer investigator in the behavioral science unit, FBI agent Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Tench interview serial killers to help them solve current murders.

The new series will debut on Netflix on August 16th, something which was hinted at by Theron back in April on SiriusXM’s Howard Stern Showand confirmed by Fincher himself last week.
