Disney has raised the curtain on the return of “The Muppet Show,” unveiling the official trailer and key art for a new special event timed to the franchise’s 50th anniversary year. The special event is set to feature Sabrina Carpenter as the very special guest, with Seth Rogen on board as an executive producer and guest star, and Maya Rudolph, newly announced, as an additional guest star.

The special event debuts February 4 on Disney+ (12:00 a.m. PST / 3:00 a.m. EST) and later that night on ABC (9:00 p.m. EST/PST), bringing Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the broader Muppets ensemble back to the original Muppet Theatre for what the official synopsis frames as a classic blend of music, comedy, and backstage chaos.
On the filmmaking side, the project is produced by 20th Television, Disney Branded Television, The Muppets Studio, and Point Grey Pictures. Alex Timbers directs and executive produces, while Evan Goldberg, James Weaver and Alex McAtee also executive produce for Point Grey alongside Rogen. For The Muppets Studio, David Lightbody, Leigh Slaughter and Michael Steinbach executive produce, with Carpenter, Albertina Rizzo, Matt Vogel and Eric Jacobson also serving as executive producers.
The rollout also includes a music release: “The Muppet Show Theme (2026)” is set to be available February 4, performed by The Muppets and produced by Bill Sherman.
Disney is also leaning into continuity with the performers, noting the special event features veteran Muppet performers Bill Barretta, Dave Goelz, Jacobson, Peter Linz, David Rudman and Vogel handling the majority of the characters, supported by additional performers. Goelz, who has performed with The Muppets for over 50 years, was part of the original run and originated characters including Gonzo and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew.
