It looks like Martin Scorsese has found his follow-up to “Killers Of The Flower Moon” in “What Happens At Night.” And as the project inches towards production, the master auteur has found another part of his cast to join Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence: an actress he’s worked with once before, albeit in a small capacity.
Deadline reports that Patricia Clarkson is in talks to join Scorsese’s latest, an adaptation of Peter Cameron‘s novel of the same name. No word on who the actress will play yet, but expect it to be a meaty supporting role, not dissimilar to the one she had in 2010’s “Shutter Island.” An Apple Studios and Studiocanal co-production, “What Happens At Night” follows a married American couple who travel to a small, snowy European town to adopt a baby. Not everything is as it seems, however, as the town’s ghostly frozen-in-time quality and eccentric residents spiral the pair into confusion.
Patrick Marber adapts Cameron’s novel for the big screen, with Scorsese also producing the film via Sikelia Productions. “What Happens At Night” continues Scorsese and DiCaprio’s partnership with Apple after “Killers of The Flower Moon,” as well as Lawrence’s; the actress has previously starred in Apple films like “Causeway,” “Bread & Roses,” and the upcoming murder mystery, “The Wives.” It’s also worth noting this will be Lawrence’s first time with Scorsese, while it’s DiCaprio’s seventh team-up with the director.
As for Clarkson, “What Happens At Night” is her next major role. Other upcoming work for the actress includes Season 2 of the Netflix Western series “Ransom Canyon.” Clarkson recently finished a stage production of “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” with Brian Cox, and starred in the biopic “Lilly,” about Fair Pay activist Lilly Ledbetter, in 2024.
Stay tuned for who else joins the “What Happens At Night” cast before the film hits production later this year.
