‘The Patient’ Trailer: Steve Carell’s Therapist Is The Prisoner Of Domhnall Gleeson’s Serial Killer In New Limited Series

Since the model launched in March 2020, FX On Hulu‘s brand has been hit or miss. Some shows like “Devs,” “Reservation Dogs,” and “The Bear,” which just premiered last month, won over critics and audiences immediately. Others, like “American Horror Stories” or the long-awaited adaptation of “Y: The Last Man,” floundered.

But FX On Hulu’s next release might be an assured winner for the content hub: “The Patient,” a limited series about a serial killer who takes a therapist hostage to help curb his homicidal urges. Steve Carell plays Alexander Strauss, the therapist captured by Domhnall Gleeson‘s Sam Fortner. That’s not a bad pair of leading men for a limited series.

“The Patient” also stars Linda Emond, Laura Niemi, Andrew Leeds, Alex Rich, and David Alan Grier. In addition, “The Americans” creator Joel Weisberg teams up with a writer/producer from that show, Joel Fields, as co-showrunners for the series. Veteran TV director Chris Long helms the show’s first two episodes.

FX On Hulu gives “The Patient” the streaming release treatment when it premieres in late August. The show’s first three episodes will release on August 30, with one new episode every Tuesday until the series wraps.

Will Steve Carell escape Domnhall Gleeson’s clutches in “The Patient”? Or will their relationship entangle the two men in unexpected ways? Find out when the show premieres on Hulu on August 30. Watch the trailer below.
