While it’s not Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, Aaron Sorkin‘s “The Social Reckoning” has landed composer Alexandre Desplat to create music for the follow-up to David Fincher‘s acclaimed tech world dramatic biopic “The Social Network,” which explored the early days of Facebook and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg.
Culture Slate shared the exciting news about Deslapt joining “The Social Reckoning.” The next chapter of Sorkin’s exploration of Facebook/Meta sees Jeremy Strong of “Succession” fame tapped to play the older iteration of Zuckerberg, taking over from Jesse Eisenberg. We’re sure many are beyond thrilled that the acclaimed French composer is handling the score.

Others among the cast include Mikey Madison (“Anora”) as whistlerblower Frances Haugen, Jeremy Allen White (“Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere”) as journalist Jeff Horwitz, Bill Burr (“The King of Staten Island”), Wunmi Mosaku (“Sinners”), Billy Magnussen (“No Time To Die”), Betty Gilpin (“The Hunt”), and Gbenga Akinnagbe (“A House of Dynamite”).
Sorkin also wrote “The Social Network,” so there are huge expectations that the sequel will be as energetic and have a comedic edge to it. Interestingly enough, actress Natalie Portman had consulted on the original from Fincher, helping to give an inside look into the culture of Harvard to the creatives. The writer/director has adapted this second installment from Horwitz’s book “The Facebook Files.”
Deslapt is in good company, as Reznor and Ross previously won their first Oscar statue for their composing work on the original movie back in 2011. The “Frankenstein” composer has earned a staggering number of Oscar nominations over his career, twelve in total, and nabbed his only win for his original score crafted for Wes Anderson‘s “The Grand Budapest Hotel.” His lengthy body of work goes back to the 1980s, with impressive film credits such as “Syriana,” “Birth,” “The Queen,” “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “A Prophet,” “The King’s Speech,” “The Tree of Life,” “A Better Life,” “Rust & Bone,” “Zero Dark Thirty,” and “The Shape of Water.”
Sony Pictures had previously announced that “The Social Reckoning” is heading to theaters on October 9, so the next big thing we’re waiting on is first-look images and a teaser trailer from the studio’s marketing team.
