March is shaping up to be an odd but fun month of genre filmmaking and a strong emphasis on horror releases, big and small. There aren’t a ton of big-name releases out this month, though there’s still a handful of noteworthy mentions. Films such as “The Bride!,” “Project Hail Mary,” and “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come” all promise buzzy, starry productions. More than anything, though, there’s a lot of exciting new talent and returns of critically lauded independent and arthouse greats that give March an extra little push. It’s a reminder to seek out the smaller releases as they promise just as many thrills and gross-out moments. All of this, plus the start of SXSW, helps shepherd in some eclectic new films.
