Got a Tip?

‘Trolls World Tour’ Trailer: The Trolls Band Together Against Evil Rock Music

Released almost three years ago, “Trolls” is an animated film that is probably less known than the soundtrack that featured the hit Justin Timberlake song, “Can’t Stop the Feeling.” That song was a massive hit and probably is the main reason that “Trolls” earned almost $350 million worldwide at the box office. And even though that’s not a total that screams box office hit (the film cost $125 million to produce), there’s a sequel coming, with even more music to worm its way into your brain.

From what you can gather in the trailer for “Trolls World Tour,” the trolls from the first film are surprised to find out there are various “genres” of trolls, with some lands being populated by hip-hop trolls, country music trolls, funk trolls, and the evil rock trolls. So, with rock music threatening the very existence of the other trolls, they band together to take down the evil genre of music. I think that’s what this film is about, at least. It’s tough watching the trailer.

The film stars the vocal talents of Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, J Balvin, Rachel Bloom, Flula Borg, Kelly Clarkson, James Corden, Ester Dean, Jamie Dornan, Gustavo Dudamel, Ron Funches, Caroline Hjelt, Aino Jawo, Kunal Nayyar, Ozzy Osbourne, Anderson .Paak, Anthony Ramos, Sam Rockwell, Betsy Sodaro, Karan Soni, Kenan Thompson, Charlyne Yi, George Clinton, and Mary J. Blige. Yep, you can clearly see what the film is being sold on, the star power. And it’ll probably work.

“Trolls World Tour” arrives in theaters on April 10.

Here’s the synopsis:

Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake return in Trolls World Tour, an all-star sequel to DreamWorks Animation’s 2016 musical hit. In an adventure that will take them well beyond what they’ve known before, Poppy (Kendrick) and Branch (Timberlake) discover that they are but one of six different Trolls tribes scattered over six different lands and devoted to six different kinds of music: Funk, Country, Techno, Classical, Pop and Rock. Their world is about to get a lot bigger and a whole lot louder. A member of hard-rock royalty, Queen Barb (Rachel Bloom), aided by her father King Thrash (Ozzy Osbourne), wants to destroy all other kinds of music to let rock reign supreme. With the fate of the world at stake, Poppy and Branch, along with their friends — Biggie (James Corden), Chenille (Caroline Hjelt), Satin (Aino Jawo), Cooper (Ron Funches) and Guy Diamond (Kunal Nayyar) — set out to visit all the other lands to unify the Trolls in harmony against Barb, who’s looking to upstage them all.
