‘Home Before Dark’ Trailer: A 4th-Grader Helps The Cops Solve A Missing Persons Case In Apple’s New Drama

Remember Apple TV+? Launching just a week or so before Disney+, the tech company’s streaming service didn’t really have the massive introduction that was hoped for. Shortly after the initial, not-so-great reviews started pouring in for the sparse original content offerings, there were many wondering if Apple dropped the ball with its streaming platform. Well, it’s been fairly quiet since, but the tech company has a new series that it hopes will attract subscribers, “Home Before Dark.”

As seen in the new trailer for “Home Before Dark,” the series features a young girl that inserts herself into a police investigation of a missing child cold case after her family moves into the town. Why are the cops entertaining the journalistic whims of a child? Well, it appears that the girl’s father is the only eye witness to the crime. Dun dun dunnnnnnn. And while this sounds like it could be a Disney Channel series, “Home Before Dark” is definitely not aimed at children. It’s dark and gritty, which feels a little weird.

The mystery series stars Brooklynn Prince, Jim Sturgess, Abby Miller, Kylie Rogers, Joelle Carter, Jibrail Nantambu, Deric McCabe, Michael Weston, Aziza Scott, and Louis Herthum. “Home Before Dark” is created by showrunners Dana Fox and Dara Resnik. Jon M. Chu (“Crazy Rich Asians”) is on board to direct an episode and executive produce the series.

“Home Before Dark” debuts on Apple TV+ on April 3.

Here’s the synopsis:

The dramatic mystery series, executive produced by Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, In The Heights) and inspired by the reporting of young investigative journalist Hilde Lysiak, follows a young girl (Brooklynn Prince) who moves from Brooklyn to the small lakeside town her father (Jim Sturgess) left behind. While there, her dogged pursuit of the truth leads her to unearth a cold case that everyone in town, including her own father, tried hard to bury.
