Alex Garland‘s “Civil War” isn’t even in theaters yet but he’s already looking to start his next project with A24 as soon as possible. And Deadline has more casting news for Garland and Ray Mendoza‘s upcoming “Warfare.” Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis, Kit Connor, and Finn Bennett all join the cast for the project, a veritable who’s who of young UK acting talent. The four will join the previously announced Joseph Quinn, Charles Melton, and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, albeit in undisclosed roles.

So where do readers know those four new names from? Well, Poulter should be the most recognizable, fresh off “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3,” “Dopesick,” and a major cameo in “The Bear” Season 2. As for Jarvis, he currently stars in “Shōgun,” one of this season’s “it” shows. Bennett did similarly with “True Detective: Night Country” in the winter. And audiences will know Connor from “Rocketman,” “His Dark Material,” and “Heartstopper.”
“Warfare” will the second-straight project together for Garland and Mendoza, after Mendoza served as military advisor on “Civil War.” But the big question is this: are “Warfare” and “Civil War” related, or are the titles simply similar? It’s a major possibility, but there’s no confirmation yet. Garland & Mendoza co-write and co-direct the project. Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich produce through DNA, with Peter Rice also producing, with A24 handling its release.
“Civil War” has strong initial reviews after its SXSW world premiere earlier this month, but let’s see how it does with audiences when it hits theaters on April. If it’s a box office hit, expect Garland & Mendoza to start shooting “Warfare” quickly, and at least before Danny Boyle begins work on “28 Years Later” (Garland returns to pen that sequel’s script). As for a release date for “Warfare”? Maybe as soon as SXSW next year.
