Well, that got kind of ridiculous for a moment, didn’t it? Teasing fanboy blue balls for the past few days, we’ve seen 6-second and 20-second teasers for “The Wolverine” (guess that promise of marketing saturation was fulfilled), but the full release arrives this morning with the first, complete trailer for the upcoming reboot (of sorts) for the superhero and the big question is: does it work?
The biggest gambit of the James Mangold directed film is dropping Logan into Japan for a story that definitely veers off the familiar path audiences have seen from the adimantium clawed hero. This time around he’s in new territory with gang bosses, Viper, Silver Samurai and more all being tossed into the mix. Wolverine aside, it’s a whole host of characters regular moviegoing folks may not be familiar with in a setting that’s certainly exotic. A bold, refreshing risk or will this be the “Cloud Atlas” of superhero movies? It’s early, and we’re still getting our coffee together so we’ll leave it to you to discuss amongst yourselves.
But we will leave you with on more discussion point: do you see any of the myriad of influences Mangold was talking about in here? All right, enough chatter — watch the domestic and international trailers below.
