Michael B. Jordan Had Been Trying To Remake ‘Thomas Crown Affair’ For “13 Years,” Aims To Do Live-Action Anime Project To “Cleanse The Palette”

Sinners” star Michael B. Jordan is about to put on his director cap for the second remake of “The Thomas Crown Affair” at Amazon MGM Studios and is talking up how long he’s been trying to get the project together.

While he’s been prepping the romantic heist flick in London for months, Jordan has spoken to New York Magazine (via Culture Crave) about trying to get the remake together for 13 years, which is quite a long time.

“I’m doing ‘Thomas Crown,’ I’m directing my next movie…that’s a movie I’ve been trying to make or I’ve been wanting to make for the past 13 years or so. This is a big one for me,” Jordan said of how long the project has been stewing with him.

Jordan is set to both direct, his second effort after “Creed III,” and star alongside Canadian actress Taylor Russell (“Bones & All”) in “The Thomas Crown Affair” after it had been previously announced by The Russo Brothers, who may still be producing as they’re super busy with “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.”

Also, Jordan is adding his desire to attempt a live-action anime movie, which stems from fans of the genre recognizing his directorial and framing choices in “Creed III” were obvious nods to various anime and manga influences.

Another fun tidbit Jordan mentioned was the possibility of tackling an anime project as a way to change things up, “You know, maybe find an anime, maybe do a live-action version that, anime. I love animation and anime, maybe something around that space kind of cleanse the palette.”

We’d only be making guesses about what that anime adaptation could end up being, but Jordan making anything from that world should turn out exciting regardless of the source material.

Amazon MGM Studios has already set the release date of “The Thomas Crown Affair” for March 5th. As the studio is all-in on Jordan as he’s attached also attached to direct/star “Creed IV” and the “Without Remorse” follow-up “Rainbow Six” (based on the Tom Clancy novel, not to be confused with the video games) that once had Chad Stahelski (“John Wick” franchise) set to helm.
