Coming out of TIFF, there was a minor bit of awards season buzz around "Still Alice" (review here), with Julianne Moore being touted as a possible Best Actress candidate for her performance. There has been a lull in that chatter for now—sustaining buzz and knowing when to strike is a bit of Oscar season dark magic—but this latest clip from the film might get that talk going again.
Starring Julianne Moore, Kristen Stewart, Alec Baldwin, Kate Bosworth, and more, the film tells the story of professor, wife, and mother in the prime of her life, who receives the devastating diagnosis that she has Alzheimer’s Disease. The drama then tracks her battle as her memory starts to slip, and her life, and the lives of those around her, are changed forever. In this scene, Stewart’s daughter asks Moore to explain what she’s going through, and her mother’s clear and candid reply is a good indication of how directly the film tackles the issue at its core.
"Still Alice" will have an Oscar qualifying run in December, and opens on January 16th. Watch below.
