Watch: Terry Gilliam Describes Universal’s Reaction After Showing Them ‘Brazil’ For The First Time

nullWith the director currently hard at work on his next effort "The Zero Theorem," fans of Terry Gilliam’s “Brazil” can treat themselves to an early Christmas present as the film hits Blu-ray this week courtesy of The Criterion Collection. To commemorate the release, the famed label has released a clip online of the director recounting the exact moment he knew he was in for a fight with Universal.

The clip is an excerpt from “The Battle of ‘Brazil,’” a documentary included with the film that details the 1985 film’s troubled release. It’s an great look at what was beginning of a streak of bad luck that has seemingly haunted Gilliam his entire career, leading right into his infamous attempt at “Don Quixote” over a decade ago. The rest of the release is just as great, including a gorgeous new transfer of Gilliam’s director’s cut along with two other versions of the movie, including the studio's 90 minute "Love Conquers All" cut, an attempt to make the film more mainstream. Check out the clip below.
