'We Can Be Heroes' First Look: Pedro Pascal Suits Up For Robert Rodriguez's New Superhero Kids Film

When you think of Robert Rodriguez films, you probably think of two different styles. There’s the action-filled thrillers like “Desperado,” “From Dusk Till Dawn,” “Machete,” and others. But then there’s this other side, where he focuses on kids films like the “Spy Kids” franchise and “The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl.” Well, for his first foray into the world of superheroes, “We Can Be Heroes,” it appears Rodriguez is venturing back into his ‘Spy Kids’ style.

As seen in the first-look images from the upcoming Netflix film, “We Can Be Heroes,” Rodriguez has brought in a pretty great cast for his new superhero feature. The film is set to star Pedro Pascal, Boyd Holbrook, Priyanka Chopra, and Christian Slater. “We Can Be Heroes” tells the story of a group of superheroes, The Heroics, that go missing. Now, their young children must band together to help save them.

And while Rodriguez hints to EW that ‘Heroes’ could be linked to ‘Sharkboy and Lavagirl,’ he admits that there seems to be renewed interest in his kid-friendly features since the pandemic has been going on.

“A lot of families have spent a lot of time together,” said Rodriguez. “I’ve been getting calls from all kinds of studios: ‘Reboot “Spy Kids.”’ ‘Reboot “Sharkboy.”’ Of course they want to. They’re all sitting at home with their kids.”

Alas, it’s not clear whether or not Rodriguez would be interested in rebooting his previous films. But he is excited about “We Can Be Heroes.” Especially when it comes to the cast that he was able to put together.
