'What Happened, Brittany Murphy?' Trailer: HBO Max Docuseries Pulls Back The Curtain On The Sudden Passing Of The Young Star

The story of Brittany Murphy is sadly all too familiar in Hollywood. A young actress with all the promise in the world passes away at a young age. However, there’s been years of speculation about her death, leading to the new investigative documentary, “What Happened, Brittany Murphy?”

As seen in the trailer for “What Happened, Brittany Murphy?” the HBO Max docuseries aims to shed light on the fairly mysterious situation surrounding her death at the age of 32. At the time, it was said that she died of natural causes related to pneumonia, combined with iron deficiency anemia and multiple drug intoxication listed as secondary causes. However, the trailer shows that not everyone believes it’s as simple as that, as the story involves her lifestyle and relationship with her then-husband, as well as the sexism that she faced while in the film industry.

“What Happened, Brittany Murphy?” is directed by Cynthia Hill, who is probably best known for her Emmy-nominated film, “Private Violence.” She is also the filmmaker behind docs such as “A Chef’s Life” and “Somewhere South.” The new docuseries is produced by Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions.
