“Only God Forgives,” the latest from the bromantic duo of Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling, is currently rolling in front of cameras, and while tabloids remain obsessed with how it’s affecting the actor’s relationship with Eva Mendes (rest easy folks, she’s babysitting his dog, so they are still together) an eagle eyed reader (thanks Lena!) has given us a heads up to a rather interesting development.
While the snaps of a bloodied Gosling have been passed around already from the film, it seems a much more interesting detail has been overlooked: provocative helmer Gaspar Noe seems to be involved in some capacity on the movie. Of course, this isn’t the first time the paths of Noe, Refn or Gosling have linked up. Throughout the promo rounds for “Drive,” Refn talked about how he rang up the French director to ask him for tips on how to shoot the head bashing elevator scene for the film: “I actually called up Gaspar Noé and asked him how he did the head smashing, because he’s the king of head smashing. And he told me how he did it, and I met with him in France also, where he went through how they did it and I tried to emulate it. But it’s not as good as his. But I had a kiss. He didn’t have that,” he said at Empire Big Screen.
As for Gosling, it was late last year that reports surfaced that he was chatting with Noe about possibly starring in the Bret Easton Ellis penned “The Golden Suicides.” That film tells the story of artists Jeremy Blake and Theresa Duncan, who killed themselves in 2007, allegedly after harassment from Scientologists. Either way, it seems Noe has wrangled his way into the Bro-Pack, making for one helluva threeway. As for his exact job here, we’re not sure — consulting, second unit, just hanging out? Guess we’ll see.
Actually, it looks like we may not be waiting too long to see what’s in store from “Only God Forgives.” Early this morning Refn tweeted:”So sorry for disappearing but we’re pushing hard toward our goal: be ready for last week of August. More news soon.” That’s right about when the Venice Film Festival kicks off…and we think putting one and one together, it could be a very strong prospect for the Lido.
Exciting times ahead, and we can’t wait to see more. [pics from JustJared]
