It’s been more than a decade since the world was graced with the amazingness that is “MacGruber.” The ‘SNL’ spinoff film was released all the way back in 2010 and though it was a pretty dismal box office failure, the absurd comedy starring Will Forte has become a cult classic that is enjoyed by really great, smart, discerning audiences who understand hilarious cinema. But thankfully, a “MacGruber” streaming series is coming to Peacock and Forte made an appearance on “Late Night with Seth Myers” to tease what fans might expect.
“We wanted it to be a little classier with this next iteration of ‘MacGruber,’” said Forte about the “prestige” version of the character that we’re likely going to get on Peacock.

From there, the actor goes into a dialogue reading from a scene involving MacGruber and Kristen Wiig’s Vicki character. I won’t spoil the jokes because it’s something you really have to watch, but needless to say, Forte is hilarious and it’s been far too long since we’ve visited our old pal, Mac.
After reading from the script, with all of the expletives and ridiculousness, Forte explained, “That’s the softer MacGruber.”
If nothing else, this little taste of what’s to come from the series version of “MacGruber” confirms that if you loved the original film (and you should), then you’re going to adore the series. And it appears that the Hard-R edge from the film isn’t going anywhere in the series, even with Forte jokingly calling the new project “classier” and “softer.”
Look, you may watch the interview with Myers and Forte and think it’s completely stupid. You may think that “MacGruber” is a one-note ‘SNL’ spinoff with little else to offer. But with streaming services greenlighting hundreds of projects a year (most of which are truly bad), why not allow Will Forte and his cohorts the chance to bring back a beloved character that many people (including Christopher Nolan, mind you) adore? It definitely makes a Peacock subscription worth it.

“MacGruber” is expected to begin production in June, which means a 2022 release is likely.
