‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’: Willem Dafoe Still Plays Coy About Appearance As Green Goblin

The Multiverse is expected to become a big part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Four, as we’ve seen “Loki” bring it to a boil after some teases at the end of “WandaVision.” While many are excited about Sam Raimi’s “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness,” the big one fans are hoping that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios will give them glimpses of is Jon Watts‘ “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” Where we see Tom Holland’s Spidey teaming up with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, which is said to have a big Multiverse component as well.

The Wrap took their shot while interviewing Willem Dafoe about appearing in a video game, “Twelve Minutes,” to bring up his unconfirmed role as Green Goblin in the “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” However, the Oscar-nominated actor wasn’t answering their question either way, which might only fuel the speculation that he may return to the Norman Osborn or potentially assemble The Sinister Six villains team in the third installment.

After stating “no comment,” Dafoe continued to say, “I got lots of stuff happening now. And, you know, I always feel like when a film comes out, that’s when it’s time to talk about it.”

It’s kind of up to how you read the statement to figure if he’s genuinely being coy about his return or doesn’t want to talk about something else when he’s there to promote something in a completely different media space, like a video game.

Dafoe isn’t the only one keeping mum, as Andrew Garfield was asked multiple times about playing Peter Parker in the third installment and had more a full-throated denial.

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” still seems a mystery about who actually is returning or who isn’t because most fans are being overwhelmed with character/casting rumors over the last two years. We’re still waiting for the studio marketing to kick in as a teaser trailer still hasn’t dropped. Sony Pictures is still expected to release the film on December 17, barring any delays to increasing worries from the Delta variant.
