'Spider-Man 3': Tom Holland Denies Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield Rumors - "They Will Not Be Appearing In This Film"

There have been plenty of wild rumors concerning Sony/Marvel’s “Spider-Man 3” making the rounds online. While some have been confirmed, like the addition of Alfred Molina returning as “Spider-Man 2” villain Doctor Octopus, many others have yet to be confirmed.

One that keeps persisting is that former franchise actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield would be appearing in the third installment as some massive Multiverse precursor to “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness” as Benedict Cumberbatch‘s Doctor Strange is confirmed for a role.

However, in a recent interview for Esquire, star Tom Holland known for spoiling surprises, downplayed their involvement in the superhero project and the outlet noting the disappointment in his voice.

“No, no, they will not be appearing in this film,” Holland tells Esquire. “Unless they have hidden the most massive piece of information from me, which I think is too big of a secret for them to keep from me. But as of yet, no. It’ll be a continuation of the Spider-Man movies that we’ve been making.”

If the two are indeed in the film, it seems odd they wouldn’t have revealed this information at this point, then again, Marvel Studios is known for keeping secrets as long as they can.

Holland also notes that they’re eight weeks into production, and he only had a three-day break between the filming of “Uncharted” and “Spider-Man 3,” luckily, the young actor has the stamina to keep the energy going for both these large action projects.

Director Jon Watts was announced back in December as following-up “Spider-Man 3” with Marvel’s “Fantastic Four” reboot.

Sony Pictures had bumped the film’s release date to December 17 after previously wanting to release in July, but due to production delays last year, that was going to be impossible. The studio is also releasing “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” this July in the former Spidey spot, and Jared Leto‘s “Morbius” was recently delayed to January 22, 2022.
