Woody Allen Is Reportedly In Pre-Production For A New Movie In Spain

Woody Allen isn’t letting his $68 million suit against Amazon get in the way of making new films. While “A Rainy Day in New York” sits unreleased at the internet giant after the termination of their deal, the director is reportedly partnering with Mediapro for his next film, which he is prepping to shoot in Spain. Based in Barcelona, the company has previously worked with the filmmaker, backing past Allen films including “Midnight in Paris,” “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” and “Blue Jasmine.”

Though there’s no U.S. distributor attached at this phase of pre-production, Allen is unlikely to have too much difficulty finding a company to release the film in Europe. The New York Times mentions Allen’s well-known, enduring popularity on the continent. It specifically cites the example of “Wonder Wheel,” which made $16 million worldwide, with only $1.5 million from U.S. theaters. Almost half of its receipts came from Italy, France, and, of course, Spain.
