Magical New Trailer For ‘Mary And The Witch’s Flower’ From Ex-Studio Ghibli Animators

Tomorrow morning, the Cannes Film Festival will unveil their slate for this year’s big show, and it’s sometimes worth keeping an eye on which movies are promoting themselves the day before the announcement. Will Kathryn Bigelow‘s “Detroit,” which released its first trailer today, show up? What about Martin McDonagh‘s “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” which already has a trailer out there, and just announced a fall release date? Well, you can add “Mary And The Witch’s Flower” onto the consideration pile, as the animated film has just dropped a new promo.

Studio Ghibli veteran Hiromasa Yonebayashi (“The Secret World Of Arrietty,” “When Marnie Was There“) directs the first effort from Studio Ponoc, built from some of same execs and talent that ran Hayao Miyazaki‘s famed home, which is now on hiatus. And together, they bring to life Mary Stewart‘s book “The Little Broomstick,” about a young girl who experiences an unlikely and magical adventure.

“Mary And The Witch’s Flower” doesn’t have a release date or stateside distributor yet, but it’s expected to debut at least on the festival circuit this year.
