Scarlett Johansson's Tom Waits Covers Album Coming In May

Remember when Scarlett Johansson threatened to make an album of Tom Waits covers?

Well, apparently the butchering time is nigh. According to AndPop (who?), Johansson’s album of Waits reinterpretations will be called Anywhere I Lay My Head and will hit stores May 6 (update: apparently the album has been moved to May 20).

The album’s title comes from a lugubrious New Orleans dirge from Waits’ classic 1985 album, Rain Dogs.

According to the original FoxNews story, the album is supposed to come out via Rhino records. As far fetched as it seems, original reports said the album was being produced by Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio and would features members from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Celebration.

Waits previously told Pitchfork about the turn of events. “More power to her. I don’t know if I’m excited to hear it, but I’m curious. People make songs so that somebody else will hear them and want to do them. I guess it’s an indication that the songs aren’t so ultra-personal that they can’t possibly be interpreted by anyone else.”

Scarlett’s pipes previously appeared on the star-cover-Gershwin album, Unexpected Dreams: Songs from the Stars in April of 2006. Good luck to everyone involved.

Johansson has allegedly been tapped to play Courtney Love in the upcoming Kurt Cobain-biopic that’s being exec-produced by Ms. Trainwreck herself. Apparently Johnasson’s also caught the directing bug.
