Sigourney Weaver Joins 'Buried' Director Rodrigo Cortés' Thriller 'Red Lights'

Rodrigo Cortés has been earning some big buzz and major league attention with his forthcoming high concept thriller, “Buried.” The film stars Ryan Reynolds as a civilian contractor who is buried alive in a coffin in Iraq and then held for ransom. Apparently most of the film takes place inside the coffin itself, and after the film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, it was snapped up quickly by Lionsgate.

It’s no surprise then that Cortés is striking while the iron is hot and getting his next film ready. Titled “Red Lights,” the film “follows a para-psychologist who attempts to debunk a very reputable psychic who has just returned to the limelight after 30 years.” Lined up for the role of Margaret Matheson, who we presume is the para-psychologist in question, is Sigourney Weaver.

Cortés had previously told Blood Disgusting that the film is “about how the brain does not give a true picture of reality,” so we would guess that there is much more to this film that meets than eye. No word yet on when production will begin, but with the cast beginning to take shape, our guess is that it’s in the not-too-distant future.
