Eleven years after his daughter vanished, a grieving father hears the one voice he never expected to hear again. That is the unsettling premise behind “Last Seen,” a new Australian thriller coming to Apple TV this fall.
Patrick Brammall (“Colin from Accounts,” “Evil”) stars as police detective Ian Ridley, whose life collapsed after his young daughter, Maggie, disappeared without a trace. More than a decade later, Ridley is working as a police dispatcher and still refuses to accept that his daughter is dead.
Then a call comes in. When Ridley answers a distress call from a teenage girl he becomes convinced is Maggie, his obsession with finding her suddenly has a new lead. Whether he is right—or simply hearing what he desperately wants to hear—appears to drive the mystery as Ridley sets out to locate the caller and reunite his fractured family, regardless of the consequences.
The eight-episode series is adapted by writer and executive producer Kris Mrksa (“Requiem,” “No Escape”) from Ryan David Jahn’s CWA John Creasey Dagger Award-winning novel “The Dispatcher.” Emmy-nominated filmmaker Christian Schwochow (“The Crown,” “Munich: The Edge of War”) directs and executive produces.
Brammall leads an ensemble that includes Maxine Peake (“Say Nothing,” “Black Mirror”), Brendan Cowell (“Dune: Prophecy”), Daniel Henshall (“Mickey 17”), Zahra Newman (“Thirteen Lives”), Jessica Wren, Tobias Muhafidin, and newcomer Chloe Jean Lourdes.
Produced by 60Forty Films and filmed entirely in Victoria, Australia, “Last Seen” is executive produced by Jamie Laurenson and Hakan Kousetta, alongside Schwochow, Mrksa, and Joanna Werner of Werner Film Productions. The production companies’ recent credits include Apple dramas “Hijack,” “Slow Horses,” and “Down Cemetery Road.”
