Got a Tip?

‘Call Me By Your Name’ Trailer: An Oscar Contender Emerges

One of the films with the biggest buzz coming out of this year’s Sundance Film Festival was Luca Guadagnino’sCall Me By Your Name.” Quickly snatched up by Sony Pictures Classics before the festival, the film that has been critically acclaimed will finally get its U.S. release in November. So, as preparation for the film’s release, Sony has just given audiences the first trailer.

For those that haven’t been following film festival news, “Call Me By Your Name” tells the story of Elio and Oliver, who meet when Oliver comes to stay at Elio’s family villa in Italy. As the trailer suggests, the two characters develop a chemistry that turns romantic, and the picture is already being regarded as an eventual Oscar contender. The Playlist’s own Gregory Ellwood saw the film at Sundance and raved, “Outside of a few short moments in Ismail Merchant and James Ivory’s ‘Maurice,’ and Ang Lees ‘Brokeback Mountain,’ the love and intimacy between two male characters has never truly felt this real or emotionally heartbreaking in a theatrical context. It’s almost revolutionary.”

“Call Me By Your Name” stars Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer as Elio and Oliver, respectively. The film is directed by Guadagnino from a script co-written by James Ivory, Walter Fasano, and Guadagnino. Popular singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens provides the music, including two new original songs. The caliber of creators involved in this film is a clear sign that “Call Me By Your Name” is a film to watch out for this autumn.

“Call Me By Your Name” will get a special screening at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival in September before releasing in the U.S. on November 24th.
