Lynne Ramsay To Direct ‘The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon,’ Based On Novel By Stephen King

According to THR, Ramsay is set to direct a feature based on “The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon,” which she co-wrote with Christy Hall, the co-creator of Netflix’s “I’m Not Okay With This.” The film follows the story of the King novel and is about a young girl that gets lost in the woods and begins to grow tired and hungry, which grows to hallucinations of conversations she has with her idol, baseball player Tom Gordon. However, since this is Stephen King, the young girl also begins to fear that she’s being stalked by a supernatural beast lurking in the forest.

As mentioned, Ramsay most recently worked on the Joaquin Phoenix-starring film, “You Were Never Really Here.” Before that, the acclaimed filmmaker directed “We Need to Talk About Kevin,” which was released in 2011. So, the good news is it’s likely we won’t have to wait six years between films again before we get “The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon.”

This feature is one of a long list of films and TV series in development that are based on the works of Stephen King. Filmmakers such as Pablo Larrain, Mike Flanagan, Darren Aronofsky, and Ben Stiller all have King projects in the works. In addition, this year, we’re expecting the premiere of “The Stand,” the latest limited series adaptation of the classic horror epic.

But let’s be honest, none of these have Ramsay attached. And if there’s one thing we know from her previous films, she’s one of the best directors of dark thrillers working today. So, we can’t wait to see what she has up her sleeve with “The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon.” The film is expected to begin shootin in 2021.
