Jim Carrey and Kate Hudson are reportedly in talks to join the Jennifer Garner-produced and starring vehicle “Butter,” according to Vulture.
The film, which lost potential director Craig Gillespie in favor of “She’s Out Of My League” director Jim Field Smith, would star Carrey as a Bill Clinton-esque figure in the political satire opposite his wife played by Garner. Hudson would be cast as the subject of Carrey’s extramarital activities.
“Butter,” whose writer Jason Miscallef received the third place spot for his script in the 2008 Black List, apparently centers around butter sculpting competitions in Iowa as an allegory for the state’s 2008 Clinton-Obama caucus. Carrey’s character is of course the reigning sculpting champ and is pushed out by his wife once he is “termed out.” Garner’s character is then put up against a preteen African-American girl in competition.
Carrey is also possibly still attached to the long-gestating “Three Stooges” film and Todd Graff’s “Damn Yankees” co-starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Garner revealed last month that ‘Butter’ was “about to get greenlit,” and, if the cast additions are confirmed, then we expect this to get off the ground relatively soon.
Update: Movieline says their sources say Carrey has already passed on the role. And apparently Hudson is still sitting on the script and hasn’t committed.
