In a blockbuster landscape dominated by franchise properties, it was only a matter of time before the Autobots invaded theaters again. Though Michael Bay relinquished creative control of the series over five years ago, 2018’s “Bumblebee” was a surprising hit with fans and critics alike. Now, the franchise will be revived once more with “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” the seventh edition of the “Transformers” cinematic saga.

Here’s the movie’s official synopsis:
“In the year 1994, a pair of human archaeologists from Brooklyn come into an ancient conflict through a globe-trotting adventure with the Autobots that ties in with three factions of the Transformers race: the Maximals, the Predacons and the Terrorcons.”
The film stars Anthony Ramos, best known for his roles in “Hamilton” and “In the Heights,” as an ex-military electronics expert residing in Brooklyn. Dominique Fishback (“Judah and the Black Messiah”) co-stars as a museum researcher. Voice actors for the autobots include Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime, Ron Perlman, Peter Dinklage, Pete Davidson, and recent Academy Award nominee Michelle Yeoh. Luna Lauren Vélez and Tobe Nwigwe round out the supporting cast of human players.
The director is Steven Caple, Jr., whose biggest prior credit is 2018’s “Creed II.” The other major creative force behind the sequel is screenwriter Joby Harold, who previously wrote “Army of the Dead” and executive produced “John Wick 3 – Parabellum.”
Though five years is the longest gap yet between “Transformers” films, the producers don’t intend to wait that long for the next installment. An animated film entitled “Transformers: A New Generation” is already in pre-production and is scheduled for release in 2024.
In the meantime, “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” hits theaters on June 9 via Paramount Pictures. Check out the trailer below.
