Bob Dylan Writes New Tune For ‘La Vien En Rose’ Director’s ‘My Own Love Song’

After already covering music through film with his winning Edith Piaf biopic “La Vie En Rose” in 2007, writer/director Olivier Dahan is at it again, but this time with Bob Dylan in his corner. The master wordsmith, with the voice you either love or hate, has written a new tune specifically for Dahan’s new musical feature titled, “My Own Love Song.” The film stars Renee Zellweger and Forest Whitaker as a wheelchair-bound singer and her best friend who embark on a roadtrip to Memphis.

An article in Rolling Stone mentioned how Dahan approached Dylan last year about contributing a song to his new feature, and Dylan responded with “Life is Hard,” a bleak ballad with mandolin, pedal steel and him singing in a dark, clear voice (that last part is important if you’ve seen any of his live shows lately).

Dylan has previously submitted songs for the likes of “Lucky You,” “North Country,” and “Gods and Generals,” and don’t forget won an Oscar for his contribution to “Wonder Boys” in 2000. He also has a new, as-of-yet-untitled album that is rumored to drop in late April, that will include this new track on it as well. The film is expected in theaters later this year.- Jonathan Helm
