Exclusive: Jon Brion's 'Synecdoche, New York' Soundtrack Coming October 21

The Jon Brion composed soundtrack to Charlie Kaufman’s upcoming mindfark, “Synecdoche, New York,” is set for an October 14 21 digital release via Lakeshore records (Update: Lakeshore has told us the release has now moved to Oct 21; the physical release is to follow at a TBD date).

The 19 track disc features two songs co-written by Brion and Kaufman himself including, “Song For Caden” and “I’m Just A Little Person,” the latter of which is featured in the movie’s trailer and both songs feature the vocals of jazz vocalist, Deanne Storey. Interestingly enough, unless the song title’s been changed, the Kaufman-Brion track, “Gravity” included in the film does not appear on the soundtrack CD, nor is “Synecdoche Song” which features the vocals of actress Sadie Goldstein, who plays Philip Seymour Hoffman and Catherine Keener’s four-year-old daughter (basically it’s a little lullaby she sings at the beginning of the film).

The score for “Synecdoche” is a bit of a soundtrack departure for Brion as the score contains many disturbing/haunting motif’s and lugubrious jazzy torch songs rather than the melancholy or whimsical nature of his work with Michel Gondry. “Synecdoche, New York,” the movie also stars Samantha Morton, Michelle Williams, Emily Watson, Dianne Wiest, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Hope Davis, Tom Noonan and is due in theaters October 24.
