Last year’s crime thriller “The Beekeeper” turned out to be a hit for Jason Statham and writer/director David Ayer. So it should come as no surprise that the two have reunited for the upcoming “A Working Man.” The movie is based on a series of spy thriller books by Chuck Dixon that follows Levon Cade, a former black-ops agent, as he takes on counter-terrorism assignments while investigating a criminal world full of conspiracies and wrongdoing.
The fact that there are multiple books featuring the character means that if the movie is a success, then there is potential for many sequels that could be adapted from the page to the screen.
The movie stars Jason Statham, David Harbour, Michael Peña, Jason Flemyng, Arianna Rivas, Noemi Gonzalez, Emmett J. Scanlan, Eve Mauro, Maximilian Osinski, Kristina Poli, Andrej Kaminsky, and Isla Gie. David Ayer (“Fury,” “Suicide Squad”) serves as director, while Sylvester Stallone is screenwriter. Producers include Stallone, Ayer, John Friedberg and Chris Long.
“A Working Man” follows Levon Cade, a former black ops agent who now works in construction and cares for his daughter. After the disappearance of his boss’s daughter, however, he must re-enter the criminal world in order to track her down.
Synopsis:
“Levon Cade (Statham) left his “profession” behind him to go straight and work in construction. He wants to live a simple life and be a good father to his daughter (Gie). But when his boss’s teenage daughter Jenny (Rivas) vanishes, he’s called upon to re-employ the skills that made him a legendary figure in the shadowy world of black ops. His hunt for the missing college student takes him deep into the heart of a sinister criminal conspiracy, creating a chain reaction that will threaten his new way of life.”
Amazon MGM Studios will release “A Working Man” in theaters on January 17
