Got a Tip?

Alexandre Desplat Will Score Christoph Gans’ ‘Beauty And The Beast,’ Vincent Cassel To Use Motion Capture

nullSince it was first announced at the beginning of the year, we haven't really heard all that much about Christoph Gans' "Beauty and the Beast." But the mere fact that the helmer behind "Silent Hill" and "Brotherhood of the Wolf" is taking on the classic fairy tale with none other that Vincent Cassel and Lea Seydoux in the lead roles intrigues us. And now, with filming gearing up, a few more interesting tidbits about the movie have emerged.

First off, Playlist fave and all around great composer Alexandre Desplat will be tuning up the picture, which is definitely something we're going to be keeping an ear out for. But perhaps most intriguingly is the news that Cassel and Gans will be utilizing performance capture for the role of the Beast. The technique championed by Andy Serkis has taken off in recent yaers — mostly recently used on Steven Spielberg's and Peter Jackson's "The Adventures of Tintin" — and it certainly suggests this version of the Beast will be perhaps unlike anything we've seen yet in the various iterations of the story. Good idea, bad idea? We'll see.

The cast has been rounded out by Audrey Lamy and Sara Giraudeau, who will play Belle's uglier sisters, while Eduardo Noriega ("Blackthorn," "Open Your Eyes") in onboard as the "villain" (though it's unclear what exactly that is). Production kicked off today, and with these details filling things in a bit more, we're eager to see how this turns out. [Films Actu/RTBF]
