It seems that you can’t conduct a proper actor interview in 2019 without at least asking the question, “Would you like to play a superhero in a film?” With Marvel Studios dominating the box office, every actor is asked this question, with most saying yes. However, in the case of Amanda Seyfried, her answer is a little more complicated.
While speaking to MTV, the actress, who appears in “The Art of Racing in the Rain,” was asked if she would be down for the superhero life in the future. Instead of saying yes or no, Seyfried told a story about turning down a big superhero film in the past and why she doesn’t regret it.

“I turned down [a superhero movie] once and they haven’t called back since,” said Seyfried. “And it was a big’un.”
She added, “I don’t regret it because the truth is, didn’t want to be green for six months out of every year. Do you know what I mean? They tell beautiful stories through superheroes, and my daughter’s now really obsessed with superheroes now, and part of me wishes I’d done it, but the other part of me is like ‘I had a life to live’ and I don’t think I would’ve been happy.”
Well, it’s clear from the fact Seyfried said she’d be painted green, that she is alluding to the role of Gamora in “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Of course, we know that Zoe Saldana has played the character over the last 6 years, appearing in two ‘Guardians’ films, as well as two ‘Avengers’ films.
And as Seyfriend put it, ‘Guardians’ turned out to be a “big’un.” That being said, at the time of casting, the idea that Marvel Studios could make a space superhero film with a talking raccoon and tree work was far from a guarantee. Even after the success of “The Avengers” in 2012, there was no idea that the MCU would be the behemoth it is today, let alone the James Gunn-directed ‘Guardians’ becoming household names.
Yes, in hindsight, it does appear to be a bit silly of Seyfried to pass up the role, but you honestly can’t blame her for doing it back then.
