Andrew Garfield Even Lied To Emma Stone About 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'

By now, we have documented the months of lies from Andrew Garfield from most angles. We’ve believed him when he seemed to be exasperated with all the constant questions about maybe appearing in “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” We’ve celebrated with him as we learned that all of that lying was in good fun and he wasn’t at his wit’s end. But we had no idea just how far his web of lies went. Apparently, the actor wasn’t willing to tell even the closest of friends and co-stars.

Speaking on the Happy. Sad. Confused. podcast, Andrew Garfield was asked if he ever told his “Amazing Spider-Man” cohorts, director Marc Webb and co-star Emma Stone, about his inclusion in ‘No Way Home?’ While you may think that someone like Emma Stone, who is not likely going to spill the beans to the media, is a trustworthy person to tell, Garfield was committed to making sure no one knew.

“Emma kept on texting me and she was like, ‘Are you in this new “Spider-Man” film?’” said Garfield. “And I was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.’ [Laughs] She was like, ‘Shut up and just tell me. And I was like, ‘Honestly, I don’t know.’ I kept it going even with her. It’s hilarious. [Laughs]”

He added, “And then she saw it and was like, ‘You’re a jerk.’”

It would appear that Andrew Garfield didn’t look at the responsibility of keeping the secret as a burden. Instead, the actor saw this great responsibility as a great power that he could use to screw with his friends and fans. And honestly, after being the subject of constant questioning for months, you have to give Garfield a bit of a free pass when playing around with the truth and leading people to believe he wasn’t in the film. Let the man have a bit of fun, right?

Of course, we all know the truth. Not only does Garfield show up in ‘No Way Home,’ but the actor has a fairly major role, alongside fellow Spider-Men, Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire. And judging by the fan response, it would seem as if everyone forgives Garfield for his lies and actually want to see more of his Peter Parker in the future.

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” is in theaters now.
