‘Apex’ Trailer: It’s Charlize Theron vs. Taron Egerton In Australian National Park Surivial Thriller Debuting On Netflix This April

Icelandic filmmaker Baltasar Kormákur returns with his latest feature effort, “Apex,” an upcoming Netflix movie arriving next month that pits Charlize Theron against Taron Egerton in the survival thriller within the backdrop of an Australian national park.

While Theron’s character is an experienced rock climber who attempts to challenge herself, she ends up pursued by another visitor of the park with more nefarious intentions, as outlined in the most recent trailer that has dropped today.

Having arresting visuals and use of nature in “Apex” (the thriller also has Eric Bana in a supporting role) shouldn’t be surprising to folks aware of Kormákur’s previous film credits, which include “Everest,” “Contraband,” “2 Guns,” and the Idris Elba-led creature feature “Beast.”

Netflix also shared the following brief logline for the action-packed thriller:

“A grieving woman (Theron) testing her limits in the Australian wilderness is suddenly ensnared in a deadly game with a ruthless predator (Egerton).”

The producing team assembled for “Apex” consists of Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and David Ready, for Chernin Entertainment; Ian Bryce for Ian Bryce Productions; Theron, A.J. Dix, Beth Kono for Secret Menu; and Kormákur for RVK Studios.

Theron has been spending some time over at Netflix with “The Old Guard,” “The Old Guard 2,” and “The School for Good & Evil.” There had been plans in the past for the streamer to help develop a sequel to David Leitch‘s “Atomic Blonde,” where Theron played a badass British spy during the Cold War in the 1980s, although it’s been a while since we had any real concrete updates on that front. The Oscar-winner’s next theatrical outing will be playing the seductive antagonist sorceress Circe in Christopher Nolan‘s Greek epic adventure “The Odyssey” this July.
