Jared Leto Endorses The Ayer Cut Of 'Suicide Squad' Premiering On HBO Max

Following the win of finally receiving Zack Snyder’s The Snyder Cut of “Justice League” on HBO Max, DC Comics fans have been calling for The Ayer Cut of “Suicide Squad” to be released. ‘Squad’ director David Ayer has stated on multiple occasions that the theatrically released version of “Suicide Squad” was not his original version and has teased the existence of another cut several times, including a much more prominent role for Jared Leto‘s Joker.

The actor was asked about his support for the Ayer Cut by Variety (see video below) on the red carpet for his latest pic “House of Gucci,” alluding to his hopes that Ayer’s original “Suicide Squad” will someday debut on HBO Max.

“Absolutely. Why not? Why wouldn’t they? That’s what streaming’s for, right?,” Leto said when asked by Variety whether he supports the release of that version of the film.

WarnerMedia‘s Ann Sarnoff didn’t seem to be as enthused about releasing The Ayer Cut and bluntly said back in March, “We won’t be developing David Ayer’s cut,” seemingly trying to put the kibosh on fans further making demands on the studio to release whatever versions of movies they hope to see.

At one point, there were reports of a “Joker & Harley Quinn” project but that vanished. The character was strangely played by a stand-in for the Harley Quinn spin-off”Birds of Prey,” during a breakup scene that didn’t make the final cut. While Leto has been keen to reprise the role there doesn’t seem to be much support for his return at Warner Bros. outside of his quickly-added scene at the end of The Snyder Cut, something that director Zack Snyder did on his own.

Michael Keaton and Robert Pattinson‘s versions of Batman wouldn’t exactly leave room for Leto’s Joker to return, so it’s a little unclear where he would show up outside of another Harley Quinn film, but who knows with how crazy all the multiverse gets in these franchises.

It’s not like Jared Leto is terribly hard-up for work and the Oscar-winner still has his “Spider-Man” spinoff “Morbius” on the horizon. If the film does well with audiences as the “Venom” movies have, you can expect that will be his focus along with Disney‘s long-gestating “Tron 3.”
