Jared Leto Teases A “Web Of Opportunity” For Future Of ‘Morbius’ Franchise

So, uh, remember “Morbius?” Yeah, it’s still a thing.Yes, it’s still arriving in theaters. And as of now, unless Sony decides to delay it for another date, the Jared Leto-starring film is hitting theaters on January 28, 2022 (about a year-and-a-half-after it’s original June 2020 date). So, with that, it appears Sony is ready to begin yet another marketing blitz for the “Spider-Man” spinoff film. How is the studio going to do that? Well, with a behind-the-scenes featurette that teases an interesting connection that may or may not be explored down the line.

The new video from Fandango, basically hyping up the film with Jared Leto talking about his title character, does a lot to explain a bit why you should be excited for “Morbius.” This is a character that has a long history in the Marvel comic book universe. It’s a character with an interesting power set (basically, he’s a vampire that got this way due to science and not your typical bite). And yes, there’s a connection to a certain webslinger, aka Spider-Man.

Remember, “Morbius” is in the same universe as “Venom” and the upcoming slew of other Sony/Marvel spinoff films such as “Kraven the Hunter,” “Spider-Woman,” etc… So, while Sony isn’t yet ready to explain fully how these films all fit together and when/if Peter Parker is going to show up to interact with these characters, the studio loves to tease.

When talking about the future of the “Morbius” franchise, in the video, Leto said, “There’s a web of opportunity.”

I mean, come on! He basically said, “Hey folks, don’t forget that Spider-Man could show up!”

Whatever Sony has to do to sell tickets in the dead of winter to a Marvel film with a C-list character and a polarizing actor, it’s clear the studio is willing to pull out all of the stops. You can watch the featurette below.
