Chris Evans Expected To Reprise Captain America Role In Future Marvel Projects

So, uh, what the hell, Marvel? You go ahead and give us the Captain America ending we could have only dreamed about prior in “Avengers: Endgame,” promising a new character would be taking over the mantle and giving Steve Rogers his happily ever after. And now, you want us to believe that Chris Evans is coming back to be Captain America again? Huh?

According to Deadline, Chris Evans is expected to return to the MCU as Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, in one new project and possibly another after that. The details are vague, but the report claims Evans will only appear as a supporting player in the projects he’s attached to. The example given was how Robert Downey, Jr. only appeared briefly in “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”

But still, what the hell!?

You see, at the end of “Avengers: Endgame,” we’re shown an old man version of Steve Rogers, as he passes the shield to Sam Wilson, aka Falcon, to become the new Captain America. The fallout of that decision is expected to be the driving force of the upcoming series, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.” So, what type of shenanigans are we expecting to see in Evans’ return?

Honestly, there are only a few options. First, we could see Old Man Steve return to help guide Falcon in his new role as Cap. That makes the most sense and wouldn’t immediately undo the emotional resonance of ‘Endgame.’ Please, let this be the case, Marvel.

The other option, and perhaps the worst-case scenario, is if we see Evans return in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” or another multiversal project as a different Steve Rogers from another universe. Sure, that would be fun and could be entertaining, but it seems like a cheat and not worth the effect it might have on the end of ‘Endgame.’

Of course, there is a third option and plays off of the previous idea. Maybe, there is a way that Evans can return as an alternate Steve Rogers that is somehow evil. Marvel Comics played with this idea recently and had a corrupted Steve Rogers turn into the biggest villain the comics have seen, taking over the world with his army of Hydra operatives. That could be interesting, but again, that might sully the goodwill that Evans has created being the star-spangled superhero.

Let’s just hope this if for Old Man Steve and nothing more. Updated: Chris Evans has responded, maybe not?
