Colin Firth Joins Thomas Vinterberg's Submarine Flick ‘Kursk’ With Matthias Schoenaerts

This year Colin Firth is returning to two franchises: he’s shooting “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” and will star in “Bridget Jones’s Baby” which opens this fall. But for my money, the actor is at his best and most interesting when he’s pursuing fare a little bit more off the beaten path, which makes this next bit of new plenty exciting.

The actor is in talks to join Matthias Schoenaerts in Thomas Vinterberg‘s “Kursk.” Based on Robert Moore‘s book, “A Time To Die,” with a script from Robert Rodat (“Saving Private Ryan,” “Thor: The Dark World“), the submarine survival tale tells the true story of the titular Russian vessel, which sank in the Barents Sea in 2000, and the fight for survival by the 23 sailors on board. No word yet on Firth’s role.

Production on the movie will begin this fall, and it will be around that time we’ll be treated with another Firth project in the James Marsh directed biopic “Deep Water,” about infamous yachtsman Donald Crowhurst. And you can bet, if the movie delivers like it should, his name will be in the Oscar mix. [Deadline]
