Hello there! After some misleading headlines from over the weekend, Scottish actor Ewan McGregor won’t be showing up as the beloved former Jedi Knight from “Obi-Wan Kenobi” in the second season of the “Star Wars” series “Ahsoka.”
The folks over at Collider pointed out the actor’s true statements given at Fan Expo Boston, where he was simply referring to his wife, Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays the live-action version of “Rebels” pilot Hera, shooting her scenes for new episodes of “Ahsoka,” which, for whatever reason, was misconstrued as McGregor alluding to Kenobi showing up in the streaming series, which wasn’t the case.
A reminder that “Ahsoka” takes place years after the events of “A New Hope” (within the timeline of “The Mandalorian” series), where a much older Kenobi, played by Alec Guinness, died at the hands of Darth Vader and became a force ghost. So, it wouldn’t make a lot of sense for McGregor to show up, and going by the actor’s actual words alone, on that front, it isn’t much of a confirmation he’ll appear.
Season 1 of “Ahsoka” and “Kenobi” both employed flashbacks, allowing for Hayden Christensen to reprise the Anakin Skywalker part, and will do so officially in the second season of “Ahsoka,” announced at “Star Wars Celebration” earlier this year. However, by all accounts, McGregor showing up wouldn’t make much sense unless they wanted to do another flashback sequence, but that doesn’t seem to be happening here.
Could we see other existing “Star Wars” characters in the new season of “Ahsoka”? Perhaps, but we don’t exactly know who they could be, and for the moment, we can take Kenobi off the table.
