‘Fire’: Clarie Denis’ New Film Starring Juliette Binoche Shooting For Cannes Debut, 'Stars At Noon' May Shoot In April

French filmmaker Claire Denis’ most recent feature, “High Life,” was not only her English-language debut (though yes, technically, “Trouble Every Day” featured two Americans in France), but possibly the highest-profile movie of her career. It starred none other than Robert Pattinson, aka The Batman, who had wanted to work with the French auteur for years. Their second film together, “The Stars at Noon,” which was set to co-star Margaret Qualley, has been put on the shelf for now, due to COVID. However, film fans shouldn’t despair. It appears that Denis has a (potentially already reported) brand-new film up her sleeve, titled “Fire,” and it might actually be ready for its world premiere in France this spring.

According to ScreenDaily, Denis is currently working on a new film, “Fire,” which is set to star Juliette Binoche (who also appeared in “High Life”), Vincent Lindon, and Gregoire Colin. This could be the previously announced, “Radioscopie,” also set to star Binoche and Lindon. Normally, we’d say they are one and the same, but, it sounds drastically different than “Radioscopie” (to be fair, not that many concrete details were given).

At any rate, “Fire” might actually be ready by the time Cannes rolls around later this year (though, if the latest reports are true, Cannes may be moving from May to deeper into the summer). “Fire” tells the story of a woman caught in an uncomfortable love triangle with her long-time partner and his best friend, who she also dated at one point.

“Fire” was written after the pandemic delayed the production start date on her other feature, the aforementioned “The Stars at Noon,” with Pattinson and Qualley, which was supposed to shoot in Nicaragua last year and is now on the shelf waiting for the pandemic to be over. The idea is that the film might be ready to begin production sometime in April. Fingers crossed on that, however, as it’s hard to predict what’s going to happen with the pandemic even two weeks from now.

Regardless, it does appear that Denis will have at least one new film in 2021 (which makes our Most Anticipated Films of 2021 list correct, yay). And if you’re lucky enough to be in France later this spring or summer, you might be able to catch it at Cannes.
