Got a Tip?

First Listen: The ’80s Synth-Rock Score Of ‘The Informers’

Presumably you know the classic ’80s hits by Simple Minds, Pat Benatar, Wang Chung, Flock of Seagulls, Men Without Hats, etc., featured on the soundtrack to “The Informers,” the film adaptation of of the debauched Bret Easton Ellis novel.

However, as reported earlier this year, Beck’s former/sometime bassist and Ima Robot member Justin Meldal-Johnsen did the music supervision to the film (he’s worked with Gnarls Barkley, Garbage, Air, NIN, Tori Amos, etc.) wrote some of the original songs for the film with help by L.A. pop rocker Jason Falkner (Jellyfish, The Grays group that also featured Jon Brion) and Australian musicians Justin Stanley (Beck, The Vines) and Dave Palmer (Air, Fiona Apple). The Aussie musician 7Ray contributed two tracks as well to the soundtrack as well.

So presumably you haven’t heard the Meldal-Johnsen, Falkner, Stanley and Palmer original songs written for the song that sound like Gary Numan covers (with singing too, is that Falkner?) and or the 7Ray tracks. File under: for the curious and or if you’re a big fan of anything Beck-related, ImaRobot and or the movie.

“The Informers” film has been out for about two weeks now and has been suffering from poor reviews, so we won’t add insult to injury. But maybe a clue as to why there’s all these Aussies on the soundtrack? ‘Informers’ director Gregor Jordan, another Australian.
